Direct Support Professional in a Community Residential Setting (Group Home)

My Brothers’ Keeper is a non-profit organization looking for creative & motivated people to become dedicated & inspiring DSP’s (Direct Support Professionals) in a group home setting located in either Shakopee or Norwood Young America.

DSP’s establish professional relationships and get to provide supervision, advocacy and innovative support to people with mental and/or physical health challenges in integrated settings. When DSP’s embrace problem solving and are passionate about helping others they are the most important asset in our organization. Shifts range from evenings, overnights and required every other weekends; may be a full-time or part-time schedule, depending on current openings.

Job Duties Include:

  • Documenting your observation of each individual at the end of each shift, communication with your peers, daily progress detail on goals of the individuals we support.
  • Prompting and assistance as needed with activities of daily living tasks including, however not limited to: Eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility issues and grooming.
  • Prompting and assistance as needed with instrumental activities of daily living tasks including, however not limited to: Transporting & accompanying the individuals to medical, dental and mental health appointments; encouragement, participation & transportation to activities in the community; organization and assistance with paying bills; planning and preparing/cooking meals; shopping for food, clothing and other personal needs items.
  • Maintaining a clean & organized home. This includes daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks you will be assigned.
  • Learning about & administering medications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record and maintain current auto insurance.
Must clear a MN DHS background study.

Skills:

Ability to effectively communicate with others.
Basic computer skills.
Demonstrated ability to read, type, write, and speak the English language.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $16.00 – $19.00 per hour

Individualized Home Supports (IHS) Workers


My Brothers’ Keeper ILS Workers provide guidance and support to our clients who live in independent living arrangements in many areas of daily living. This may include, but is not limited to: scheduling and maintaining appointments; finding gainful employment; household management tasks; budgeting finances; engaging in community activities; and promoting healthy relationships. Each client has their own unique set of goals they are working towards related to achieving healthy, independent lifestyle. ILS Workers travel to their assigned clients’ locations on a weekly basis using either a company vehicle or their own vehicle, and they design their own flexible work schedule through arranging weekly client appointments that meet clients’ needs. Our clients are most centered in the Scott and Carver county area. Starting Pay $16/hr.  Apply Now

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, clean driving record and maintain current auto insurance
  • Must agree to and clear a MN Department of Human Services background study, which reviews criminal history
  • Preferably at least 1 year of experience supporting individuals with mental illness, chemical dependency, or other disabilities

Personal Care Assistants (PCAs)


Job Duties may include:

  • Assisted Daily Living tasks, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting/changing, and eating
  • Mobility-assistance related tasks, such as positioning the client at periodic intervals for necessary care or comfort; fall prevention; assisting with range of motion exercises to maintain muscle strength and functioning; and assisting with transfers such as: wheelchair to/from a bed or chair, wheelchair to/from toilet, wheelchair to/from shower or bathtub, etc.
  • Health-related tasks, such as assistance with self-administered medications or interventions for seizure disorders
  • Behavior-related tasks, such as observing and redirecting behaviors

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • If client requires transportation, the PCA must have a valid driver’s license and current auto insurance
  • Steady job history strongly preferred
  • Must agree to and clear a MN Department of Human Services background study, which reviews criminal history
  • Must test and pass the MN Department of Human Services Personal Care Assistant Certificate Exam with a score of 80% or higher; The exam can be taken online here
  • Must test and pass the MN Department of Human Services Vulnerable Adult Mandated Reporter Exam with a score of 80% or higher; The exam can be taken online here
